Moon in Mṛgaśira

Weekly moon transit and crystal energies 02.18.24

Sunday, February 18, we begin the week with the moon exalted in the sign of Taurus, transiting the Nakṣatra of Mṛgaśira. For part of Friday and most of Saturday, moon was fully exalted in its favorite Nakṣatra of Rohiṇī. Hopefully, this has made for a peaceful, productive weekend full of sweet moments for you.

I like to start the week off on Sunday, and today we have moon in Mṛgaśira, still in the favorite sign of Taurus. All Nakṣatras have a core desire, and in Mṛgaśira, the desire is to become immortal, with a ruling deity of Soma, the moon God. Soma is also the name of the elixir of immortality, consumed by the gods.

Immortality sounds like a lofty goal, but we need a little hyperbole to get us going sometimes. This is one Nakṣatra where the erroneous concept of karma can be seen - your right actions and desires get fulfilled, but the wrong ones often get punished. Karma isn’t about punishment and reward, but there are times it can feel that way.  People with this Nakṣatra in their charts may find that they can’t even let a parking meter run out without getting a ticket. They must always be on the “right” side of everything. That’s one big energy for this week. Take right action, be in right relationship with as many people, things, and concepts as possible, and you will be rewarded.

Also as this week begins, there is an energy of blessings for securing that which you have been hunting. Mars is the planet associated with Mṛgaśira. With Mars currently exalted, this lends even more energy and action taking to your plans. This makes the overall energy here one of blessings to take big action for lasting fulfillment of desires.

Mṛgaśira is also known as the searching star. If you don’t currently have plans, projects, or goals you are working toward, this is a good week to keep your eyes open for your next challenge or healthy obsession.  You may also want to search within for those lost hopes and dreams from childhood. Maybe it is now time to bring one of those back to life.

There is always a shadow side to watch out for, as we know. Here you might find yourself making impulsive decisions or getting wrapped up in the collective consciousness and finding yourself in a mental or emotional frenzy.  Fear and suspicion can arise, as well as a feeling of being hunted, pursued, or attacked in some way. If you feel these things this week, take note of it, knowing what energies in the sky are at play, and evaluate whether it is real or just the mind and emotions telling you stories. Then you can either respond appropriately or take time to do some anxiety calming activities or processes.

Mṛgaśira can also bring about restlessness, so use that energy for accomplishing plans, travel, or exercise. If you feel overly restless, tend to that with self care practices like meditation or immersing yourself in beauty and comfort - something as simple as putting on clothing that makes you feel luxurious or posh can relax you. Taurus loves beauty, flowers, art, and anything that brings peace. Use these things to balance the activity and restlessness of Mṛgaśira if you feel that it is needed.

The crystal energy for the week, from the Crystal Spirits Oracle by Collette Baron-Reid, is Dumortierite. This energy is about helping you plan and prioritize. This goes well with the energy of Mṛgaśira, represented by a deer who is always searching for the most delectable leaves. It may be time to trim the fat off of your to do list. Anything that isn’t necessary or the most delectable needs to go. If it doesn’t make you happy, and you don’t have to do it, let it go from your life. This can also apply to relationships. Do you need more organization in your relationships, or are there some that you can adjust to make life easier and more enjoyable? What about finances? Would some better organization help to increase your wealth and attraction of abundance? Call in the energy of divine order to help you with this.

Dumortierite is said to produce quiet confidence, patience, and to calm excitability and stubbornness. Remember, you don’t have to have the physical crystal with you to use the energy. Simply hold the name of the crystal in mind, while imagining its energy surrounding your aura or pouring into the crown chakra and filling up all of the cells in your body. It can also help with clearing the third eye and crown chakras for better intuition and psychic abilities.
