Moon in Maghā

Weekly Transit and Crystal Energies 12.03.2023

मघा - Maghā

We begin the week on Sunday with the moon transiting Maghā Nakṣatra, in the constellation of Leo. Maghā means mighty or great. This is where we see power, leadership, government officials, and nobility. If you have planets placed here, you may be a leader at work or in some kind of organization, whether you like it or not.

Leadership in your own life is important this week. Don’t take a backseat to anyone’s ideas for you or for your life. Standing up for yourself is a theme here, so notice if there are places you need to do so.

The symbol is the throne room, indicating a degree of royalty and a magnanimous personality. Those born under this star need to work to stay humble and give respect to those who have paved the way before them. It relates to the father’s lineage and ancestors in general, even all the way back to the Vedic ṛṣis, who cognized the Vedas. It is a reminder of the gifts (and sometime curses) that are passed on to us from our ancestors through our genetic code. Take an inventory of what you’ve gained from your ancestors, whether it be material/financial, or gifts such as compassion, the ability to forgive, or the ability to hold space for others. Who did you learn how to love or cook or work from? These are also gifts from the ancestors that should be recognized.

The deity is Pitṛ, which can relate back to the ancestors who started a lineage or father and father figures. Most people with prominent Maghā in their charts have important ties to their lineages, and often benefit in some way from their ancestors, whether they receive a big inheritance or the legacy of a business or a name. It’s important to honor theses ancestral ties, even if simply stopping to recognize them and having a sense of gratitude for the fact that you are here in this human birth.

Maghā people know how to get things done, and no task is insurmountable. If you encounter a Maghā person, your intention better be solid, or you’ll find yourself going along with whatever their intention is. If they are an ally to you, they will help you move mountains. Channel this energy this week for yourself, to accomplish tasks that have been waiting for this boost of energy to see them through.

This is the star of power, and the Shakti is the power to leave the body, as it is associated with Ketu. So there’s also a fiercely spiritual side to this star group, though the focus is on material pursuits and social status. When the Maghā person has gained enough and becomes disenchanted with the material world, they can easily shift focus to spirituality, so long as they can maintain their power and authority. Where can you encourage your own spiritual power and authority in your life, without sacrificing the things you’ve worked hard to attain?

Moon in Maghā is a good time for ceremonies like weddings or anything of grandeur. It is also good for award ceremonies, ancestral research or honoring, asking for a raise or promotion, upgrading your possessions, and even studying ancient knowledge.

The energy from the Crystal Spirits deck (Collette Baron-Reid) for the week is the Apache Tear. This is about grief, and ties in well with the theme of ancestors. We are often processing the grief of our ancestors, whether we realize it or not. Carrying an Apache Tear stone with you helps process grief and aids in protection. Once the grieving process is done, you can bury the stone for the energy to be transmuted.

The card description says ”When Apache Tears Spirit appears, it is calling out to recognize that losses, and even betrayals, come bearing unexpected gifts; they can break your heart open and send you on a mission to live more fully, more lovingly, more meaningfully. Much goodness is coming your way, so hold on and hold fast to the truth that you have a destiny unfolding before you. Clear space by releasing the past and washing away the old with your tears. You do not need to hold on to old emotions.”

This card fits so well with the them of Maghā. Honoring the ancestors, but releasing those losses and betrayals we all have with the people who came before us. Here is where we can begin to let go of those things from the past we can’t change, then forgive, as we help to heal the lineage, past and future, through our own spiritual growth.
